People were looking for solutions of how to take out water out of coal mines, the culture of science was growing encouraged by governments, like in France and England. Europe had a small population and required for labor saving inventions.
Steam engine is still used today, nuclear power plants are run on steam engines so most of electricity we get is because of steam engines.
