The United States has currently used its allies in conflicts, most notably the one in Iraq. In the Cold War allies never were really used to their full potential because there was not any direct physical conflict. If that had been the case, alliances would have proved to be an even greater factor in defeating communism. Advancements in the American military are helping to defeat the terrorist groups. The military advances will help in the current War on Terror to both defend on the home front with defensive missile systems and attack abroad with nuclear tipped bunker busters. The homeland defense manuals are helping to prepare the American public on the home front as they did in the Cold War. However, like communism, terrorism will never be fully extinguished, but with the help of the American citizens in being prepared, of the American military and American arms power, and of all the many allies, terrorism can be brought to a level of control. Even if the War on Terror is one day announced to be over, terrorism will still be alive and well just as communism is still found throughout the world.…
