Modernism means not only a complex of new artistic means, but also a specific world outlook representing the particular period (Ivbulis, 1985: 23) – that after the World War I. Since the existing order of the world has been changed and people needed to get accustomed to the new order, the period can be characterized by confusion, obscurity, and desperation created by this unjust, unheard-off, blooded and disastrous slaughter. Later, the belief in technical progress comes in, although the Enlightenment period trust in human mind, the ability to understand the world and power over the nature disappears.
Modernism as a trend of literature is centered on the research of the spiritual nature of men, the value of the society and its institutions, it is focused on the changes on society, so the authors have a new possibility to express themselves in new ways. This literature tries to explain what had been happening to the society of the period, when it thinks that industrial growth is the key to happiness for people in the future. …
