One of the harmful consequences of Globalisation is the pollution that oil waste causes into the sea. In October 30th 2002, a ship called “Prestige” weighed anchor from the port of Saint Petersburg, and in Ventspils harbour in Latvia, 10 miles from the coast, it was loaded with oil.

Before the ship was sunk, 27,000 tons of oil were spilled, though there are still 50,000 more tons left, that are coming from the bottom of the sea.
As it was thought, the sea streams pulled the tons along the coast, causing an oil flood onto the beaches, rocks and coastal villages, killing fish, birds and destroying the whole ecosystem.
