Often globalization is understood just in economic terms. For example, Immanuel Wallerstein supports world system conception to describe globalization process. He argues that modern states have never been societies, but are the political units of modern society’s interstate system and economy. Countries do not have economies, but are part of the one common world economy. Besides modern world system is capitalist world economy.
According to Renato Ortiz there are some nuances in this theoretical framework in describing globalization phenomena. At first there is strong economic inclination of the analyses, for the world’s system history is conceived as the evolution of capitalism. As the economic basis is the privileged unit of analysis, political and cultural manifestations appear as its immediate reflections. Society is formed by an economic infrastructure and an ideological superstructure. The material “floor” would comprehend and determine the upper part of such architecture. Besides a world system is an articulated set within which all elements are functionally integrated into the whole.…
