“The Birthday of the Infanta” is a short story by Oscar Wilde. The main characters in this extract are the Infanta and the little Dwarf. The extract reflects the differences between perceptions of beauty - the inner beauty of the Dwarf and the beautiful-looking princess Infanta. The Dwarf is the protagonist, he is the round character in this text. Other characters might be regarded as antagonists, more or less flat characters, since not much is known about them.
“The Birthday of the Infanta” is a third-person narration, the narrator is limited omniscient. In the extract the narrator does not clearly take anyone’s side, however, the use of the vocabulary makes the reader feel pity for the Dwarf.…
