NEW SUPPLY SOURCES
Businesses will be able to identify more and more supply sources from future e-commerce developments than they are presently doing. This will have the effect of enhancing organisations B2B supply chains even further.
MANAGEMENT OF CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
To capture the full benefits of B2B e-commerce, firms will need to use it to place more emphasis on customer relationship management. Instead of merely automating the physical procurement process B2B e-commerce will increasingly be used to track customer, client and supplier behaviour and provide a range of data analysis services. These information systems can then be analysed with that analysis fed back into the business or used for demand forecasting
OVERALL
Effective B2B e-commerce will depend on the development of open global standards, which will allow companies to transfer information and link across supply chains. It is back to basics for the development of B2B e-commerce and that means business collaboration on information systems and business models so that electronic business exchanges can generate economic efficiency along a supply chain. Collaboration is key to the development of common standards and ultimately interoperability between different exchanges. Also, the integration of technology solutions will improve the functionality and uptake of B2B e-commerce and be an important means to potentially provide secure and portable e-commerce.
