Conclusion: My hypothesis turned out to be correct in this lab. I had said that metal will heat up faster because it uses all of its energy to increases its particles kinetic energy and this is what happened. The metal that was in the beaker took the heat energy that was coming off the stove and used it to increase the particles kinetic energy in the metal. This then caused the metal to start heating up because the particles are moving faster and faster in the metal. When the metal heats up the surrounding water is heated up faster also. The water in the beaker with the lead has two sources of receiving heat energy from while the water that is in the beaker alone has only one. This also proves that metal has a lower specific heat capacity because instead of cooling down the water, the metal heated it up even faster because it absorbed heat coming off the stove and then the water absorbed some of this heat. …
