PERSONAL IMPACT OF THE BOOK:
After reading the book I came across several things that made a huge impact on my personal thinking on a race issues. First is that he narrates a story of every minority (mostly blacks) in white dominant American society. Almost every minority has to go through this cruel road to success. Some succeed and some don't, but after you get there you still feel that you are being neglected and pushed back. I never noticed or felt racism, because I always over looked the problem. Recently (after taking this class) I have looked back at some situations in my life and paid closer attention what I have gone through, gives me a vivid examples that I was being discriminated. Second point is that I always thought that everyone makes there own destiny, and when I hear minorities crying about there social problems, I always thought that it was all in there hands to change their situation. But after reading this book, my eyes are opened because even successful minorities have to deal with white society. They are singling them out and no matter how hard they try they are getting deeper and deeper in the hole. This situation scares me because I am graduation soon and like everyone else I have a dream of becoming successful in life. So the question I ask my self is will I have to deal with the same racism and discrimination? Will I be able to overcome this situation? Or will I be another cliché?
