Rural Tourism in Daugavpils Region

The river Daugava, which is one of the most vivid symbols of Latvia, flows through Daugavpils region. The region is located at the very East west side of the country; it has 2 cities and 25 rural areas. This means that we have many competitors in this field. Tourism is the same type of entrepreneurship as all others; it requires serious knowledge, persistence, skills and ability not only to compete but also to cooperate with competitors.
I was born in Daugavpils region, thus the desire to explore the possibilities of tourism in the area where he was born is very understandable. The sector of hospitability includes 2 parts: accommodation and catering. The possibilities of catering were researched in the previous paper; this year's paper is devoted to the following theme: “The Products of Rural Tourism in Daugavpils region and their marketing”.
Currently the region offers approximately 50 places for tourist accommodation (lodging), they include houses in country and villages, hotels, motels and campings. The aim of this paper was to describe the most popular and most frequently visited places of accommodation, their marketing activities, and cooperation with tourism information centers.
In order to achieve the aim, the author of this paper has completed the following tasks:
Research on the theoretical background of the paper;
Indicate places of accommodation and tourism information centers offered
Estimate of prices and quality of the services offered
Study the consumers of rural tourism services and their seasonality
Evaluate the marketing of these services
It is possible to visit Latgale with more than one aim: you can see the places and objects of tourist attraction, find out about its rich cultural heritage and you can have really good rest.
I prove that Daugavpils region offers wide range of tourism possibilities, and that it can compete with other regions in Latvia.
The paper contains different viewpoints that are taken from various sources. The author has compiled and pointed out the most important and the most essential issues and added the personal opinion and conclusions.
Rural tourism - type of tourism that includes both recreation and cognitive elements; takes place in rural areas; is based on small and medium enterprises.
“Bed and breakfast”- private enterprise, which offers one or more rooms for lodging, the price includes breakfast (apart from accommodation).
Tourism activity/ place of attraction- place, object, activity or event, which attracts interest and inspire people to experience or see it.
Ethnical tourism- traveling with aim to visit relatives, family member or to see the places that are linked with the origin tourist's ancestors.
Culture tourism- the type of tourism the aim of which is to get introduced to the cultural heritage and famous places.…
