There are many ways, but a new city ordinance is being proposed to help make people aware of water they waste when watering their lawns, which is not only expensive, but wasteful as well. Many times run off water can occur when someone waters too much or in a steep part of their yard and flows downward onto a street or curb. The Water Advisory Commission here in Lubbock may propose a new ordinance to the city council in the next few weeks about making it unlawful for run off water to come from your yard. You could receive up to a $1,000 fine if the proposed ordinance is approved by the Lubbock City Council" (www.kcbd.com).
No mater what is done to solve this solution, if the people of Lubbock continue to take water for granted it will not be there for our descendants. Ultimately, experts say the only way to meet future demand is to build more reservoirs, tap into aquifers, and recycle wastewater for non-drinking purposes. However, each of these solutions will cost a significant amount of money and the water could still run out eventually if there is no rain. Therefore, the most feasible solution overall would be to conserve what water we have, but this is the best solution at the moment because even if we are to conserve all the water without rain it could still deplete. Hence, the fact that conservation alone will not help in 50-100 years, Lubbock must still look into other sources.
