When working with individual an obvious way to overcome issues and confusion regarding a youth workers duty for confidentiality is to set up a contract. However this very difficult when interactions and interventions with young people are often 'spur of the moment' by this I mean that helping is not planned like it may is in the counselling profession nor can you start stating the term and conditions of the interaction and professional relationship when a young person needs help and is in a state of distress. In the organisation I work the policy states " If there is reason to suspect child abuse, neglect or risk of significant harm, all staff have a duty to contact appropriate agencies (Social Services) which overrides the normal duties of confidentiality" (Notting hill Adventure Playground Child Protection Policy, 2002) There is nothing explaining what 'normal confidentiality' is, I will now create an appropriate confidentiality policy. Confidentiality is important in any interaction with young people and it is often a youth workers personal values and principles that are used to deal with confidentiality issues for example do you maintain the trust of young people which may of taken years to build which is helping them with the process of growing up or do you act in the interest of the general public. There are many issues surrounding confidentiality in youth work. As a youth worker it is good to be aware and prepared for issues, which may arise.…
