Analysis of "Conversation About Christmas" by Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas is better known as a poet, but he always considered himself a writer of both prose and poetry. He had trouble publishing his first collection of short stories, because publisher’s considered them obscene. ”Conversation About Christmas” is one of two similar and very popular stories, “Memories of Christmas” and ”A Child’s Christmas In Wales.” He grew up in southwestern Wales and that is why in many his works is mentioned Wales. English language he learned from his father. Dylan Thomas wrote about things that were unacceptable for many people, but also works, which influenced young writers and poets. He died in 1953 of an overdose of alcohol.
”Conversation About Christmas” is autobiographical story. It has been written in the form of story, but, actually, it can be considered as a poem.
In this work author uses metaphors like: “chimney trembled,” to make it sound better. It also helps to understand the situation and events. Epithets have similar meaning in this poem. Epithets like “moonlit, snowlit, silver corn,” are used to make the poem sound more colourful and brighter. It also shows the level of writer’s imagination.
