Introduction
Nowadays, country problems witch are connected to regional development takes one of the biggest role in the modern economic science and in that way it becomes an important problem in every country.
There is no doubt that regional policy is one of the most disputable topics between AND within the member states of the European Union. There is one word that probably describes regional policy the best – “fairness”. Shortly described, the regional policy aims to reach equality between economic situations of all member states. However, it is a general expression and it can not be interpreted as “good” or “bad”. It is important to understand the underlying idea of the regional policy of European Union – richest member states shall support the poorest member states by means of financial aid. And this is where the disputes start… There are some individuals who have a short term way of thinking and there are some individuals who are long term – orientated. The short term oriented individuals come from the “old” member states and they have an opinion that the European Union should not provide new member states with financial aid from the common resources. Contrary, long term thinking individuals are from the new and old member states. The ones that are from new member states are in favor of the present regional policy of the European Union because there are undoubtedly better off by receiving “financial presents” from the European Union.
