This programme would have been targeted at a very specific audience, for example, homophobic people would not like this programme and it would instead be targeted at open minded people.
The use of language in this programme was very adult with quite a lot of cursing and swearing there was also some quite graphic sex scenes.
Bad girls is a tv series which is about a women's prison in England. There are quite a few lesbians in the programme and they are portrayed to be butch, masculine types. See fig8.
This would come under cultural codes because this is a very steriotypical notion. The language and accents used are usually gruff with a lot of swearing. However these characters are very restricted as you never actually see anyone having sex but you are told about it afterwards.
There are also many legal constraints because it is on at 9 - 10 at night so there is only partial swearing and nudity.
