"A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." So states the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution is the foundation of American society, and if it states that people have the right to keep and bear arms, then so be it. If Americans give up the right that is stated in this portion of the U.S. Constitution, then there is a dangerous chance that they will begin to lose other rights, one by one. It is therefore dependent on you, the American public, to uphold your right to protect yourself. Currently, there are over two thousand gun control laws in existence. The Courts have deemed gun control the responsibility of the state, and not a federal matter, so restrictions vary from state to state. Guns have been a part of America's history since those who declared themselves Americans set foot on this country. Guns were used to protect, to hunt, and were instrumental in the fight for independence.
