The number of blacks executed exceeds their proportion in overall population. Eighty percent of the executions are for killing a white person, but over half of all homicides victims are African American. In reality gender makes a huge difference if you are being sentenced to death. Ten percent of all murders are committed by women but only a handful gets sentenced to death even if it is the same crime if a male committed it. Women commit thirty percent of spousal murders and only one has been executed since 1976 (Grabowski 34). The percent of executions in the South is eighty percent and the rest of the nation is twenty percent, and in Connecticut 5 people were on death row but in Texas 443 was on death row.
In conclusion, the death penalty really doesn't serve a good moral purpose in the world. Everything from the message it gives out to the racism involved proves that the United States of America could do without the death penalty, and therefore proves that capital punishment should be illegal in all fifty states.
