It seems that there is a decline in reality show popularity in Baltic region, especially Lithuania, however there are attempts to find new forms of reality shows. Lithuanian producer Andrius Serva indicates that reality now is shifting from glass house reality to reality soap, meaning that edited episodes of the shows are becoming more close to soap operas having real life characters.
In this paper development of glass house reality will be discussed as having worked in several shape a habit to observe the market and trends in it. A simple definition of a ‘glass house’ reality show would be that it is set in closed or partly closed environment, where participants are being observed 24 hours a day.
Reality format in Lithuania increasingly is becoming more close to soap opera, it is not about people who live in a glass house, it is not about peeping though the keyhole, but it is about relationship between participants and development of their skills. First reality shows in Latvia and Lithuania were typical glass house realities that showed the everyday life of participants, they did not have any other challenge, but living together with strangers in closed environment and being observed 24 hours a day.…
