When you here the word cult mentioned you usually think about crazy, isolated communities of people in which everyone in the community is controlled by one psychotic individual. Then this leader would develop this horrible life style of poverty, sex, violence, drug usage, and maybe even death through controlling all those in his possession to do whatever he wants. Now although this maybe the case for many cults historically and currently present in the U.S. not all follow this same perception. One interesting case in particular is the Order of the Skull and Bones.
This group is centralized by a common goal of wanted power a success for everyone involved in the group. It is presently residing at Yale University and is meant to get those who are inducted jobs right out of high school. Only 15 of Yale's top juniors are "tapped" every year by the seniors and given their choice to join. In the past this organization and some of its past members have been tied to the opium smuggling business and performing acts of espionage; however, over the past few decades they have reformed for the most part and are no longer a threat just of very much interest. All we really can do is just speculate what goes on inside their secret meetings and what social psychological concepts they utilize to retain and obtain members.
