Response of respiratory system to acute exercise
During the exercise your pulse, body’s temperature and breathing will be increased – it’s a tidal volume. When you are exercising your body consume more oxygen and your lungs are starting to work harder. Exercises, where respiratory system is working like a beast is good for you, because after couple of months your strength of diaphragm and tidal volume will be increased. Breathing is controlled by a respiratory centre found within the medulla oblongata. Changes in body during the acute exercises are increased ventilation and increased diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Increasing breathing rate
Exercises are resulting in an increase in the rate and depth of breathing. During them, your muscles demand for greater amount of oxygen. Increase in carbon dioxide production stimulates deeper and faster breathing. As well as, capillary network surrounding the alveoli expands, increasing blood flow to the lungs.
As well as, breathing is under involuntary control of the respiratory centres of brain. Brain send nerve impulses to respiratory muscles to control tidal volume and breathing frequency. Two actions are involved in this process – inspiration and expiration. Breathing is controlled by neural and chemical factors.
