Summary of the 17th and 18th Centuries in Britain History
1.The House of Stuart – important European royal house. Inherited territory by the 17th century, including the Kingdom of Engl. And Ireland.
2.The Gunpowder Plot- a failed assassination attempt by group of English Catholics against King James I. They wanted to kill the king, his family and most of the Protestant aristocracy. Also wanted to abduct the royal children.
3.The English Civil War – was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians and Royalists. It led to:
The execution of Charles I;
The exile of his son;
Replacement of Engl. Monarchy;
Protectorate under Oliver Cromwell’s rile.
4.The Bishop’s Wars – a series of armed encounters between Engl. And Scotland. Charles I called an Engl. Parliament Parl. Demanded the abandonment of the royal claim to levy ship money, and a complete change in the ecclesiastical system dissolved Parl. a fresh war witj Scot. Followed.…
