The building in which the National Museum of art is housed was built in 1905. It was made for Riga’s museum requirements and used as a place to develop Latvian art.
Nowadays it is a very important monument of history of art because there are exhibitions from the middle of 18’s century to 1945. The museum collection is focused on the Latvian masters – Janis Rozentāls, Vilhelms purvītis, Jānis Valters e.t.a. But also there are many works by Russian and other foreign artists. The exhibition is placed for two floors. On the first floor is exhibition of Baltic’s paintings and best works by Russian artists. But on the second floor we can look works in chronological order what reflects Latvian professional art development from the middle of 19’s century to 1945.…
