A few days later Estelle gives a Christmas party in her house. All are invited also Victors father. During a party Viktor mysteriously disappears. When Hilary comes back at home, she smells gas in the hallway. Victor wanted to do suicide. “If we stay here, we will both die, Victor says.” (273) But they sit together on the hallway stairs and Victor finally say that he know about Hilary and Gordon. “...I looked up and you were standing with him...and you looked at him with an expression...I thought, Oh, yeah, they are lovers” (274)
