8.3. As to his work, the miner seems to feel pretty much pleased with it. Moreover, seems that he was so used to it that he didn’t feel any need to change something in his life. He was in harmony with his surroundings both at work and home.
8.4. When thinking about the education of both characters, it is easy to see that the
miner came from lower working class in the time mentioned in the text. He had some education, but he wasn’t well educated. He was pleased with his life, practical and down-to-earth, he enjoyed the simple joys of life. His wife, in the other hand, seems to be from a higher class. Differences in the education are seen in the speech of characters; while the miner uses colloquial speech, his wife uses accurate, literary speech.
8.4. In my opinion, author passes from the past tense to present tense in his narrative, first of all, to show that the time he speaks of was in the past, secondly, he connects the actions in the past and nowadays to show that one’s daily routine in mines has not changed in many ways.
