The reason of the research is to find out knowledge of the students from University of Latvia about the differences in vocabulary between American English and British English. The main problem is that the students mix these both varieties and use them simultaneously. To reach the goal, a questionnaire will be used, which will be given to the 2-E group students of University of Latvia. To get the necessary information, the literary sources will be analyzed. The results will be used in the research of students’ knowledge.

There are many differences between American and British English. According to the previous researches, there are differences in pronunciation, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. This research will deal with the differences in vocabulary. It is necessary to understand the differences to be able to distinguish American English from British English. It helps to avoid the mixing of these both varieties in speech or/and in writing.
The Goal will be to find out whether the students can recognize and separate American English from British English words.
The aim of the questionnaire is to learn about the knowledge of American and British English differences from the students of University of Latvia. The results will be analyzed and added in the appendix. The aim of the research is to find out the information about the theme.…
