David Choe (born 1976, Los Angeles, CA) is a muralist and graphic artist. His murals ornament walls from Los Angeles to Vietnam, as does his graffiti. He is known as much for his exaggerated vulgarity as for his aesthetic sense.
Choe, a Korean-American born and raised in Los Angeles, dropped out of art school to become a street/graffiti artist. He was, self-admittedly, a thief in order to support his life-style. He has been arrested a number of times for various acts, including vandalism and assault. He even spent 4 months in a Japanese prison for assaulting an undercover security officer in 2004. While in prison his creativity could not be stopped. He meticulously sketched almost every meal he ate while in prison. He continued to draw and paint with any materials he could get his hand on, including, blood, urine, and soy sauce.…
