The Cherokee nation was one of the bigger Indian tribes. The Cherokee called themselves the Ani-Yun' wiya which means leading or principal people. They originally lived in what is now Georgia, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia.
