The Maxol Group is entirely Irish owned, in the secure possession of the McMullan family, who have three generations of experience in the oil business.
The founder of the company was one William McMullan, a chemist by profession, who started the business modestly delivering paraffin oil by horse and cart around the streets of Belfast.
The original company was McMullan Bothers Limited, and was registered in Dublin in 1920.
From these humble beginnings the company has grown to become one of the largest and most respected family-owned businesses in Ireland. The Maxol Group is the third largest Oil Company in Ireland and both the leading Irish and European independent Oil Company. The main trading companies in the Maxol Group are Maxol Lubricants Ltd., Maxol Direct Ltd., Maxol Ltd. and Estuary Fuel Ltd. in the Republic of Ireland and Maxol Oil Ltd.and Maxol Direct (NI) Ltd. in Northern Ireland.

Maxol Limited – The Dublin-based Company that markets bulk fuels to the Retail, Commercial/Industrial and Authorized Distributor sectors throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Maxol Oil Ltd. – Based in Belfast Harbor and supplying bulk fuels to the Retail, Commercial/Industrial and Authorized Distributor markets in Northern Ireland.
Maxol Lubricants Ltd. – Supplying a full range of lubricating oil and associated products to customers throughout the island of Ireland from Maxol’s purpose built base in Santry, North County Dublin.
