Malta is both the name of the nation and of the largest of the Maltese islands, Gozo and Comino. The island group, which also includes uninhabited Filflat and Cominotto , extends for 45km from northwest to southeast in the centre of the Mediterranean basin.
The sea is clean and clear, pleasant to bathe in, excellent for diving and accommodates a wide array of water sports. Some of Malta’s best beaches are in the far north, where stretches of golden sand fill the bays either side of Marfa Ridge. Steep cliffs characterize Malta’s southern shore.
First day – Malta’s Beaches. Mellieha Bay is Malta’s largest beach, 600m long and resplendent with bright umbrellas in summer, when it throngs with people. It is excellent for swimming, sunbathing and water ports. There are also a couple of no-frills beach cafes.
Tuesday – wallking tours to Valletta. Valletta is capital of Malta also beautifut city. A walk around the perimeter of Valletta on the road that follows its defensive curtain wall, yields unparalleled views across Marsamxett Harbour and Grand Harbour. It is a couple of hours well spent and there are open-air bers for refreshment on the way. The trip can also be done by traditional horse-drawn karrozzin – the views are just as good and you may be treated to an informative commentary.…
