INTRODUCTION
The theme of my business report is ‘The Use of Compounds in Business Articles.’ As the English language develops all the time, and new words appear in our speech, people continue to use two or more previously unrelated words together, later the combination gets acceptance and gradually the compound becomes widely used. However, this progression does not follow a consistent and regular pattern. It is complicated even for scholars to agree on the rules for compound words, because there is not one strict rule in compounding. Part of the problem has probably been the lack of systematic analysis of compounding based on formal and functional criteria rather than on meaning. I agree with M. Dale Kinkade who writes that another problem appears on setting limits on compounds – i.e. what is a compound and what is not? English compounds may be classified in several ways, for example, by the word classes or the semantic relationship of their components.
The goal of this research is to examine the most frequent ways of compounding, to select samples and analyze them.
I intend to analyze twenty articles on business related themes and to summarize all the compounds I come across according to their word class and principle they can be rendered – they can be written separately, with hyphen or written as one word.
For enabling the goal of this research, the following objectives are used:
• to study compounds from the theoretical point of view
• to collect compounds from business articles
• to analyze the collected compounds
• to draw conclusions
The hypothesis of the present paper is as follows:
A compound consisting of nouns and written with a hyphen is the most frequent way of compounding in business articles.
Methods of Research are qualitative and quantitative ones.
Theoretical part focuses on the theoretical background of compounding.
Practical part deals with the analysis of the collected samples.
