As Ieva Zauberga writes in her book ‘Theoretical Tools for Professional Translators’ that many would claim that anyone who knows foreign languages can make a reasonably good translation. Translation process is often seen as a mechanical transfer of a text from one language into another. What a translator needs is patience and a good dictionary. However, numerous substandard translations all around us (advertisements, novels, newspaper articles, TV) call for revision of general ideas about professional translation. Like any profession, translation requires special skills or procedural competence.
In this term paper I would like to show you the theoretical and practical side of interpreting. The difference between interpreting and translation, what is conference interpreter and types and modes of conference and simultaneous interpreting. Doing my research I realized how difficult it would be if I had to do translation on the spot. And I tried to show the variety of choices I could make. …
