Conclusions and Discussion
To conclude, this report has shown several ways for the hotel industry on how to implement green measures and act sustainable. Scandic proudly provides detailed information about the sustainability efforts of the company on their homepage and annual reports. Scandic is doing a major work in preserving the environment and climate, being sustainable, managing the waste by reducing, recycling and reusing. The company is very creative and tries to find various new projects with aim to lesser their impact on environment. For example, “hang your towel if you want to use it again” is their invention which set a global standard in the hospitality industry. Therefore, Scandic is clearly a leader in this area and sets a great example for other businesses who aim to be more sustainable. Hopefully, encouraging them to follow as well. That being said, the recycling industry nowadays is really innovative and I believe they could also implement linen re-using programs. Old linens could be recycled into laundry bags or tote bags, bathrobes, slippers, carpets or even hangers for plant-pots.
Scandic hotels have received several eco-labels, awards and prizes for keeping up the good work in the sustainability area. Personally, I think, that Scandic uses these acknowledgements as a proof of sustainable efforts rather than a marketing trick. I think, that Scandic is not greenwashing their guests, but instead being proud of their efforts and developments in sustainability area.
