Smells play an important role in the behavior of various species of animals, from insects to humans.
But human sense of smell is poorly developed in compare with other mammals. Man lives in a world of sounds and visual images. That’s why we don’t understand our four-legged pets, for which the first importance in life play smells. Smell carries information about the kind of an animal, sex, and even shows their individual and family relations. Even a mother and baby can recognize each other by a characteristic odor.
Some researches, devoted to studying the role of odors in human life, appeared in print since the late 30's. However, only in the last 10 years the role of odors in the lives of people was studied rapidly.
Sensitivity to odors varies with age. It is shown that children’s mark of smell (pleasant-unpleasant) changes connectedly with age.

The idea that the sense of smell and emotion are closely connected and that the sense of smell is the "most emotional" human feelings are often discussed in scientific literature. However, only a small number of researches are devoted to this problem. …
