In the third stanza he is now lying with his head in the sand and looking at the sky. He notices what the sky resembles and compares it to a back-lit canopy. "I'm counting UFO's; I signal them with my lighter" (line 12). The UFO's symbolizes the person that he wishes was there and signals her to come share the moment with him. He wants to share the moment because of the person's importance to him. The poem also states that he is happy at the moment, he is happy because again maybe he is closer to letting go of that person.
The fourth stanza is a repeat of the second stanza; which adds more emphasis to wanting someone back. …
