Conclusion
To sum up, many issues in tourism arose as a result of post-colonial discourse. People travel to encounter another culture. It can be experienced in variety of ways. One of the examples is the desire for authenticity. Another important variable is to host and guest relationship which suggests that their encounter often is unequal and raises question on power distribution. These encounters start to become harmful once locals start to please the tourist and create products on demand. That is where product starts to lose its original meaning. Another threat to local cultures is acculturation. However, tourism has the potential to bring positive impact to local cultures as well such as revitalization and renew interest in culture in young adults. More attention should be drawn to ethics in tourism as the international travel is on a rise and will continue to grow in the future. There is a crucial need in tourism for more ethical encounters. Without tourism the world would be boring. However, people should be more mindful of other places and people around them and realize how they are getting affected. Critical tourism geographers should collaborate with world’s tourism leaders where that would help in educating society more. Seek for opportunities to prevent or at least protect places from environmental degradation and expand the connections of care. Discover how face to face meetings with other people obtain various emotional responses of worries, embarrassment or guilt. Address inequality and other forms of discrimination in our society more actively. In addition, something needs to be said about holiday escapism. In other words, seeing tourism as fun, which tends to ignore indulged unethical practices. If people would become more self-aware of their actions travel would be made a lot easier and less stressful to both locals and tourists.
