There are many different types of drugs in the world today. Some are good, like prescription drugs prescribed by a doctor. Then there are other drugs, mainly found in the black market. These drugs are usually highly addictive, and costly. Prolonged use and abuse of these narcotics can hold serious repercussions. There are many different effects depending on the drug being used. It is for this reason that I have broken down the effects into the three most widely used types of drugs today: marijuana, cocaine, and LSD.
Marijuana
Marijuana is a green or brown mixture of dried, broken up flowers and leaves of Cannabis Sativa, the hemp plant. Marijuana contains nearly 400 chemicals. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is the "active ingredient" found in the hemp plant that accounts for the psychoactive effects. This is what determines the strength of the drug. Most marijuana contains 3 percent THC, but can be found as high as 24 percent. Oils from female hemp plants can contain as much as 70 percent THC. The method of use of this drug is to smoke it, but can also be mixed into food or used to brew tea. Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in the US, being used by 10 million Americans each month.
