Is it possible for a countries number one cash crop to be illegal? The answer is simply yes. In the United States of America marijuana took over corn as our countries number one cash crop and it's very illegal. Marijuana is by no means a new drug it has been around for a very long time. It has been around since the days of colonial America when Washington and Jefferson grew hemp. It wasn't until the 1930's that the government really became interested in this very questionable plant called marijuana. The government began researching this peculiar plant and decided that it wasn't appropriate for people to be smoking it. This new idea of thinking by the government brought about the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. This was by no means the end of the drug.
