One of the most important political issues covered by The Baltic Times is the article about embattled Ventspils Mayor Aivars Lembergs who has announced that he would go on a hunger strike to protest alleged violations of his constitutional rights. Aivars Lembergs is suspected of large-scale bribery, tax evasion and fraud. His domestic assets have been places under arrest.
