The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity in the Australian population is a serious health concern, so it is very important that we act on Australia's weight. The first place to start is with dietary modifications. Ideally, all Australians should adopt eating and activity habits that allow them to maintain their weight within the healthy weight range from early childhood.
The nutrients that are essential for human life are found in varying amounts in many different foods, therefore it is important to enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods and that way you can take full advantage of the many benefits that nutrients have to offer. These foods include fruit, vegetables, legumes, cereals, lean meat and dairy products, however reduced fat varieties should be chosen where possible. You should also limit saturated fats, sugars, alcohol and foods high in salt. Also, remember to always drink plenty of water, at least 8 glasses a day.
Participating in physical activity on a regular basis will also help you to maintain a healthy weight. Put together at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise on most, preferably all days and, if you can, also enjoy some regular vigorous exercise for extra health and fitness. …
