I dare say, that Boccaccio’s Decameron (written in 1352-1354) is the most colourful and diverse literary work of these days. The reason why I chose this work to discuss in my essay is that I find it a brilliant source where to get impressions what the Medieval and Renaissance Italy was like. That is because most of the characters of Decameron are real historical persons. Also the fact that Boccaccio searched the ideas for his work from different sources – Greek, Roman and Oriental stories, church legends, court chronicles, anecdotes and the happenings of the Boccaccio’s time, makes it clear that the described facts in a way reflects the real life and views of Italian man in the Middle Ages.…
