Although, this approach can meet the users' requirements better than the other one, developers still need to observe the new system to make sure it achieve planned objectives and necessary maintains are also needed.
The developers' skills of these two approaches
As the engineering approach "emphasizes mathematically based, normative models to study information systems, as well as the physical technology and formal capabilities of the system." (Laudon and Laudon, 2000:13) Developers should have high technical silks such as high level of IT knowledge and experience, programming skills, and testing ability, as well as management science, which can let them choose the appropriate hard ware, develop the software, and understand the business process and all documentations then develop the model for management in an organization.
Although the socio-tech approach has many distinct differences to the other one, its developers still need the above skills, because these two approaches share the same understanding of the business process and technology methods.
Furthermore, as the problem and change defining is the key step of the socio-tech approach, the high communication skills and sufficient management knowledge and experience are needed, because developers will involve in the current system, analyze the formal information that is perceived and used by users, (Laudon and Laudon, 2000:13) get right, real and rich information to find out the root definition. …
