Gift Giving
Gift giving is an endemic part of Japanese business life and it should not be confused with notions of bribery and corruption .Gifts in Japan are given to show appreciation of a favor done for you or to establish sound business or personal relationship.
● Gifts should be something from your country and of a reasonably high quality, preferably with a special significance to your company or local area.
● Gifts should be given and received with both hands. Gifts should always be wrapped to show your respect.
● Avoid giving gifts in quantities of four or nine as these are unlucky numbers.
● Anything sharp could signify the desire to end a relationship.
● Alcohol, especially good single malt whiskey, is always an appreciated gift.
● Remember that to your business partners the gift you give and the way that you give it reveal a lot about your character and your attitude towards business.
