Rhesussystemet
Rhesus-systemet er den anden blodtypesystem. Denne blodtypesystem er ikke nær så "uoverskuelig" som AB0-systemet, men omhandler også antigener og antistoffer. Der findes to typer blod inden for dette system, rhesuspositiv og rhesusnegativ. Der findes i modsætning til AB0-systemet kun et antigen, som er tilknyttet de røde blodlegemer hos rhesuspositiv. Dvs. at rhesusnegativ ikke har noget antigen.
Der er normalt ikke nogle af typerne som danner antistoffer fra fødslen , men får en rhesusnegativ person blod fra en rhesuspositiv person, danner rhesus negativ typen antistof (anti -D) mod rhesus positiv typen. Dette er yderst farligt for personen, da der ved blanding af de to blodtyper, sker en kraftig immunreaktion.
