On one hand, scientific thinking comes later than the depicted epoch of transition between Stone and Iron ages, but, not doubt, the modern director of the film and the spectators are the representatives of the age that may be called scientific. What does it make? We can take three episodes for the analysis. One – Grendel is beating his head by a stone and giving out wild cries in anger. The other two – Grendel is peeing at the door of Valhalla and Boewulf pees at Grendel’s cave.
The introduction of the film represents Grendel as a mentally retarded child and, later, a mentally ill adult with the signs of atavism in his face, alert to all senses such as smell, noise, touch in contrast to the soldiers, who highly rely on their metal weapons and visionary images. …
