The author of "Loser in the Dating Game" proposes a second solution that involves the adolescents themselves taking action. The author proposes violence prevention programs, and mentions Young Adults Against Dating Abuse (YAADA) and Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program (YAAPP) as examples. In such programs, the adolescents and the parents learn about the negative aspects of abuse through skits, movies, and other media-involved strategies in which the teenagers take part. By being a part of a short play, the person is directly affected for a long time interval. Hence, such programs would be more effective on the long run, and increasing the number of such programs would help a greater amount of troubled adolescents.
The emotional and physical means by which violence can be perpetrated on an adolescent by their dating partner can sometimes be misinterpreted due to inexperience. As the bond between teenagers and their parents tend to be weak, the parents do not know anything about their teenagers' lives and are shocked when they hear about stories of dating violence. For this reason, the bonds between the adolescents and their parents or mentors need to be stronger as they grow so they can have someone trustworthy to talk to.
