William Faulkner is a classic writer in the 1930’s who was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1949. His acceptance speech explains that the author is a thoughtful and intelligent man. His speech is not like the most of speeches. He is not thanking his supporters, like most people receiving awards, but talking about importance of writing as such. Faulkner speaks about what an author must do to be become a good writer. He says that a man must teach himself that the main of all things is to be afraid. He explains that after learning it, an author will write as he stood among and watched the whole action. He talks about contrast between body and soul. The purpose of using the contrast is to show his opinion about writing and what other authors are eager to write about.
