Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky on February 12, 1809 to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln. He was born in a one-room log cabin only 16 feet long and 18 feet wide. When he was 6 years old, he and his sister Sarah walked two miles each day to a log schoolhouse. He learned how to read, write, and do math. He enjoyed writing a lot and even wrote with charcoal on the back of a wooden shovel to practice. Since there were no neighbors in his area, he spent most of his free time reading.
