This battle has lasted for 13 years and shows little sign of ending. Early in October of 2003, Michael won a court decision to have his wife's feeding tube and IV lines removed. Terry Schiavo began to starve to death. Her doctors assured the public that the woman would feel no pain because the very portions of the brain that registered pain had been destroyed long ago. They did however admit to prescribing her pain medications, just in case. Terry Schiavo's parents pleaded with Florida governor Jeb Bush to do something to save their daughter's life and put a stop to what they believed was a state-sanctioned murder. Six days later, Governor Bush drafted a new law, designed specifically for this type of case, to keep Terry Schiavo alive. Terry's feeding tube and IV lines were reinserted. Believe it or not, this is the second time that Terry's feeding tube was ordered removed. This case has been batted back and forth for thirteen years.
Regardless of which side of the battle line you find yourself drawn to, you cannot blame either Terry's parents or her husband. Her parents are just being parents, holding on to the hope that Terry can eventually, with therapy, have some sort of meaningful life. …
