The way men and women are divided in society strongly influences the way Australian Universities are shaped. It is important to consider that information produced by a university can be gendered. Factors such as university staffing and the number of students attending universities are important to consider, as in most cases women are outnumbered by men. Men continue into higher levels of study than women, and male academics are in the majority especially at the higher levels. It is also important to consider the stereotypical ideal of what an academic is, as most would imagine an academic as male. However statistics show that there has been a strong increase in female enrolments over the past 10 years, and a larger number of women studying at higher levels, which will continue to challenge traditional ideas of male dominance.…
