The subject of the present paper is beef cattle breeding. I have chosen this subject because I am very interested in livestock farming and especially in beef cattle breeding. I have already started to work out my graduation paper, dealing with the same topic - beef cattle breeding.
It has been recognized that beef industry in Latvia is very coming due (thanks) to the suitable conditions of cattle keeping. Producing of beef cattle is a good opportunity for farms located in the nature restricted areas and in territories with poor land. There is also an advantage for the development of beef industry in Latvia because of the high demand for beef in the market.
This paper covers six breeds of beef cattle - Galloway, Highlanders, Limousin, Herefords, Simmental, Charolais. I have outlined how these breeds differ in appearance, character, constitution and quality of meat. The origin of each breed, positive characters and necessary conditions for keeping are also described in the paper. This information might be useful for cattlemen to find out which breed of beef cattle will be most suitable and profitable for the breeding in current farm. …
